Muhsin Shaheed

Chaplain

Muhsin Shaheed has been a chaplain with DFW International Airport Interfaith Chaplaincy since September 1998. He is a Certified Muslim American Chaplain from Muslim Teacher’s College in Randolph, Virginia, December 2000. He is the only Muslim that is a member of the International Airport Chaplain Association. He is a retired educator from FWISD.

Muhsin earned an associate degree from TCC (formerly TCJC) in Fort Worth, Texas, in May 1986, a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice with a Minor in Social Work from Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, Texas, and a master’s degree from TCU 1992 and 1994 respectively. He earned a second master’s degree in Islamic studies from Cordoba University’s Graduate School of Islamic and Social Sciences in Leesburg, Virginia in July 2004, (an affiliate of the Washington Theological Consortium, with ten member Methodist, Catholic, Jewish, Muslim and Presbyterian – as well as two affiliates, which are either non-Christian or interfaith theological institutions). He completed 33 hours for his doctorate; Islam in the African American Community, Metamorphosis: Social, Cultural, Nationalistic Reformation from 1930 to 1975, to Analytical Hermeneutic: to Islam Proper from 1975 to 2008. He earned fifteen credit hours in Humanities toward doctorate at UT Arlington, Texas and its sister’s institution, The International Linguistics Center in Duncanville, Texas, and audited twelve hours in Theology, Semantics, Hebrew, and Pastoral Care from Brite Theological Seminary at TCU. He earned six credit hours in Arabic Language I and II from The Institute of Arabic and Qur’anic Sciences in Fairfax, Virginia in Spring of 2004. He studied Classical Arabic and Tajweed (proper Qur’anic recitation) at Al-Azhar University, in Cairo, Egypt, Summer 2000, the second oldest university in the world. He is an Executive Board Member at The Institute of Medieval Post Medieval Studies/Discovering Stem (IMPMS) in Plano, Texas.

He published articles on recidivism in The McNair Research Journal and on Imam W. Deen Mohammed in The Encyclopedia – Transatlantic Relations, Africa, and the Americas: Culture, Politics and History, Volume II, ABC-CLIO. He edited four books, the most recent; An Insider’s Guide to Islam and the 40 Hadiths: An Explanation, for Dr. Yushau Sodiq, retired Professor of Religion from TCU.

He traveled and lived in Egypt, Nigeria, Ghana, Togo, Sweden, Türkiye (Turkey) Australia, Kenya, Morocco, Spain, Ireland, France, England, Germany and he completed Umrah and Hajj in Mecca (Makka) and Medina, Saudi Arabia in 2000 and 2016 respectively.

Currently, he delivers Fridays Muslim Worship Services at DFW International Airport Chapel at Terminal D. He lectures at churches, synagogues, Mosques, schools, colleges, and universities, speaking about Islam and the Abrahamic faith tradition, promoting diversity and commonality in religion.

He is a native Texan, actively involved in promoting knowledge and understanding through interfaith, working with Christians, Jews, Muslims, and other faith communities to build bridges of tolerance, respect, similarities, and cooperation to enhance societal harmony and human dignity.
